Answers before rehearsal
Start with the production question, then ask which combination of people and systems can answer it reliably.
Does virtual production require an LED volume?
No. Keyed studios, tracked augmented graphics and hybrid sets can also support virtual production. Choose the method around the shots, people and resources available.
What is the difference between a virtual set and augmented graphics?
A virtual set provides some or all of the apparent environment. Augmented graphics add camera-aligned objects or information to a view. A production may use either or both.
Do all cameras need tracking?
No. A fixed view may use a fixed virtual camera. Moving shots that need perspective-correct imagery generally require an appropriate tracking and lens workflow.
Will virtual production guarantee more engagement?
No. Audience response depends on relevance, match quality, presentation and distribution as well as production design. Measure results rather than promising them.
How many people does the crew need?
There is no universal crew size. Assign ownership for direction, floor safety, cameras, tracking, graphics, rendering, audio, engineering and moderation where relevant. Combine roles only when workload and competence permit.
What should we test first?
Test one representative segment through the complete signal path, including its busiest transition and a rehearsed fallback. Add complexity after this baseline works.
Why does delay matter for viewer polls?
Viewers may see the prompt at different times because of distribution and player buffering. Leave a suitable participation window and state closing rules clearly.
How should we estimate the budget?
Scope the shots, output formats, rehearsal time, crew, assets, licensing, integration and backup requirements. Request itemised quotations against that scope rather than relying on a universal price.
How can we make the show more accessible?
Use readable graphics, spoken explanations, captions and information that does not depend on colour alone. Test companion interactions with keyboard access and assistive technologies.
